Week Seven Discussion
Allowing our mental models to become visual can assist us in understanding our own cognitive structures and learning processes. Concept mapping is not only a good tool for pre-writing, but for making thinking visible, and for allowing teachers to actually see the way that students assimilate new information into their cognitive structures. This article about CMap Tools (a concept mapping software mentioned last week in the discussion - free online) outlines the way that CMap Tools can assist learners in building robust cognitive structures that include images, links, and shared knowledge. In addition, Prezi can be a tool for creating Concept Maps. This article, Concept Maps at the Beginning Middle and End outlines some ideas for concept map creation and use in the classroom.
