Assignment Overview

Assignment: Stage Two UBD Template

50 Points

Reading: Understanding by Design Chapters 7 & 8

With Understanding by Design, we design our assessments before we think about the activities we will use. That being said, it is difficult to think of the way we will assess unless we think about activities and standards. Therefore, during this stage, you may find yourself going back to Stage One, and moving forward to Stage Three. Stage Two in the Understanding by Design Workbook, as well as the chapter entitled "Thinking like an Assessor" in the text can assist you if you are unsure while you create your Stage Two document.

You will submit this assignment by filling out the Stage Two Template (click to download this template). Submit this document to Dropbox by Sunday at midnight.

Assessment Criteria for Stage Two Document:

  • Measures standards and targeted knowledge and skills (Students will know and be able to do). 10 points
  • Includes a student self-assessment related to standards and EQs and EUs. 10 points
  • Includes a performance assessment (an activity which awards a grade based on a rubric, checklist, or other non-test assessment).
    • The actual rubric or checklist for the assessment is included in the Stage Two Document 15 points
  • Includes formative assessment (a non-graded activity which utilizes a rubric, checklist, or qualitative feedback). 15 points
  • Bonus (10 extra credit points) - Utilizes technology to assist with assessment
