Week One Discussion
The NETS Standards for students and the Alaska Technology Standards outline the expectations for student technology use in K-12 classrooms. In addition, the NETS Standards for teachers present a vision for teacher technology use and expertise in the classroom. The Alaska Standards for Culturally Responsive Schools provide an underpinning for all standards that we will implement in our classrooms.
The 21st Century Skills Framework web site will present some ideas that you may recognize from other classes and readings. Explore this site well - and come to an understanding of what these skills may mean for you and those you may teach.
Finally, Edutopia is an excellent resource for viewing best practices in use in K-12 and higher education classrooms.
After exploring the resources for this week, reflect upon your own knowledge of these standards, expectations, and uses of best practices. Think about the concept of 21st Century learning along with all of its complexities.
In your initial discussion, consider some (not necessarily all) of the following questions:
How have you practiced these standards or practices? Where have you seen them in practice? What would you consider your own obstacles and goals in terms of these standards and practices?
Post your initial discussion to the blog no later than Tuesday at midnight!
The Weekly Discussion is assessed with the Participation Checklist:
